Oh geez.... I don't know what to say... it this mornings read there were lots of babies... lots of hurt feelings... infertility, and jealousy... Good to know this has gone on in our race forever. So Jacob left his family yesterday to a new place to get away from Esau's vengeance from Jacob stealing his Birthright AND his Blessing. So today Jacob had made a new home, and found a beautiful woman he loved. In order to marry her he had to work for her father for 7 years. He did - what patience they had back then.... I'm telling you, I know our nation is a "fast food nation" using that in a sense beyond food - we like things quick! I am part of that patience is my worst virtue.
So - back to the 7 years, Jacob served his 7 years, then asked her father if he can be married yet, he said yes. So... they got married and he laid with her... EXCEPT IT WASN'T HER!!! Ok... if any of you have insight on this I would love it... how did Rachel's father trick Jacob to think Leah was Rachel? Was Jacob that drunk? I do not have the answer on this one.... but I think he you love someone you should notice if its them or not when you marry them... something was up here. My husbands opinion was back then they got married veiled... that would explain how they got married ... so did they get married, then he noticed it was Leah and laid with her anyway? I don't know...
Back to the story - So Jacob had to work another 7 years to get Rachel - but he got her at the beginning of the 7 years. I feel like I am rambling... Leah started having babies... lots of babies. But Rachel was barren (the Lord closed her womb). It seemed like you new back in those days why you were not having children, but infertility is still infertility. If you have ever experienced it, you know that when other women have children, as excited you want to be for them, it literally hurts your heart because it reminds you about your handicap. Poor Rachel - she had to watch her sister, her sisters maid, her maid ... all have lots of babies... THEN the Lord opened her womb. Again... patience!
So there we are ... now, Jacob has lots of kids, left the place he was living with a great heard and fantastic women. There is a lesson to be learned here... but I am still working on that! lol
