This mornings read was Genesis 9 - 11
To me there was some interesting stories here. One thing I thought was kind of comical - I do believe that our God is comical sometimes! - So it had just gone through the accounts of Noah's kids, their kids, where they live and that they all moved out and separated into their own languages and so forth .. their own clans. Then, in the first part of Chapter 11 the Tower of Babel, it is telling the story on how the people are building a tower together... and to paraphrase in my own words... it says they are all working good together and accomplishing great things - THEREFORE, I (God) must come down and mix up their languages so they can not understand each other... OK...So basically things were going well, so I am going to give them another hurdle to jump over.... isn't that just life! I don't think I have ever felt that way in my personal life... lol .. .ok... just almost everyday! Have you ever felt that way? Say you have been working toward a goal, and you are finally there, now something brand new was thrown at you. Sometimes I think God is saying "GREAT job!!! Now what are you going to do with this???" And he watches intently over us to see our response!
To make this story personal, my husband and I tried for six years to have a child of our own, we did tons of infertility treatments... you name it we did it. During this time, we had a great house, our finances were in order, and all we were missing was the kid! Then in 09 we decided we wanted to adopt a child and God quickly blessed us with a child that was so perfect for our family I couldn't of physically birthed a better fit. THEN.... complications! Finances, Housing, Adoption complications... So that was our... NOW What... like we were just thrown out into the world with a different language. We just had to work on our response ... I do hope our response has been pleasing to the Lord. Nothing has changed for us, just complications that God is definitely bigger than!
Ok... so back to the Bible! The second thing that struck me was in Chapter 9 when it was talking about the Sons of Noah. Noah got drunk and passed out naked. Ham his son saw him naked and went and told his other brothers. His brothers quickly got a blanket and covered him up, but they did not look at his nakedness, they went in backwards to protect his Father. Lets just say that Ham got in trouble! But it wasn't necessarily Ham, it was his kids! Ham's son was cursed for life! But the sons of the two brothers that did the right thing were blessed! I can get very deep about this one, it kind of touches a nerve for me. How many of you believe that we reap the sins of our Fathers and Mothers? I feel we do... Why was it important for Ham to not only not look at his fathers nakedness, but to also cover him up? Well, who wants to bare their nakedness to the world? We should protect each others nakedness and not "gossip" about it. Maybe this is why there is such a hesitation of becoming vulnerable in our society. All that said, I sure hope in my life I can be the child that can walk in backward and cover up the nakedness of my parents, family, friends, you name it. I know I haven't always done that, but TOGETHER... we can do it!!
Lets burn bright today - Our light is brighter than all the darkness in the world!
